Erikson's theory identity versus role confusion is very important within the adolescent years. As an adolescent I was able to develop a healthy identity from of good sense of physical, physiological well being. When I was a teen, my parents were very supportive of my choices. They taught me how to become independent throughout my adolescent years. They wanted to make sure I was going feel comfortable going off to college. I also was able to gain positive friendships with others which gave me a positive identify of my self.
While in middle and high school, I formed a a close friendship with three best friends. We were called the four musketeers. There was Katie who I had been friends with since the sixth grade; Ains who I knew since a baby and lived on the same street; and Michelle who I met through Katie and Ains. During my junior and senior year, all four of us were inseparable. All four of us were alike but also different in our on little ways. Katie came from a religious background and was more reserved, Michelle was very sweet but more of the jealous type, and Ains was the outgoing one in the group; and I was outgoing but at the same time quiet. Ains, Katie, and Michelle had already been friends for a couple years before I came in the picture. Ains and I grew up on the same street and played together as babies. However we were never close friends until our junior year. When we were in high school we planned out our lives. Katie was to get married and have children first; me second, then Ains, then Michelle. Michelle was always the single one and a times resented us for having boyfriends. Well believe or not, our lives are what we planned. Katie married first and is pregnant, me second, then Ains just got married, and Michelle is still single.
Katie and I were best friends in middle school then she was asked to join the cheer leading team our freshman year. Our lives became very different from one another so our friendship started to fade. During my junior year we started to have classes together and become best friends again. All four of us were very supportive of one another. This was very important for us so that we good develop a positive self concept. If we had an issue about anything we knew we could turn to one another for help.
I did notice that at times that two of us such as Katie and Ains would team up; and Michelle and I would team up. There would be times where we felt closer to that person. Even though we were all four best friends there was still our favorite within the group. When we graduated from high school, we all attended college. Katie stayed in our home town, Ains, Michelle and myself went away to college. We all tried very hard to stay in touch with one another. I would visit my home town quit often so I would see Katie often. Katie and I would take trips to see Ains a Georgia Southern at times. I even made trips to see Michelle at Valdosta. As the years went by in college, I could tell we all were starting to drift apart a little. I have realized as we get older our lives change and grow apart from loved ones at times.
Today Katie, Ains, and I are still pretty close. Michelle has drifted apart from the "four musketeers". I know I will always have my two best friends to count on for anything.
This is a picture of our famous pose which we call the four musketeers charlie's angels shot.. We still do this pose today at weddings.
